Benefits of Sculptra

The older you get, the less your body produces collagen, which causes a loss of elasticity in your skin. In turn, your skin begins to sag and fold, creating wrinkles and lines.

The most noticeable changes occur in your face, which is exposed to the elements more than anything else and also affected by sun damage, genetics, eating habits, and stress. Changes in your appearance can cause you to become self-conscious and dissatisfied. Unlike many other dermal fillers that require periodic injectable treatments to see sustained results, Sculptra brings changes that can last for years after just a few injection sessions.

Because the wrinkle correction brought by Sculptra is largely due to an increase in collagen production, the results of this procedure are both beautiful and natural-looking and is why Sculptra has so many benefits. Sculptra can be used to treat many of the most common signs of aging, including nasolabial folds (smile lines), marionette lines, chin wrinkles, hollow cheeks, skin laxity, and uneven skin texture.

How Does Sculptra Work?

Over a series of three treatments, Sculptra gradually fills in fine lines and wrinkles by replacing collagen lost over time with newer, stronger structural proteins. This injectable is made with poly-L-lactic acid, also known as PLLA. When injected into the deep dermis, PLLA causes the skin to raise and lift, providing immediate wrinkle correction. Over time, the microparticles of PLLA begin to replace collagen within the skin, reinforcing its overall structure. This makes the skin smoother, tighter, and more youthful-looking. As time passes, this collagen framework becomes stronger and stronger, sustaining the original results of the injections for as long as two years.

Sculptra Procedure

Sculptra is a non-surgical, minimally invasive treatment that is completed in the doctor’s office. Because there is no need for anesthesia, you will be able to leave directly after the injections are complete.

In fact, you can drive yourself to and from the doctor’s office and continue on with your day. Your total time for treatment should take no more than 30-45 minutes. Your nurse injector will start by applying a topical analgesic to numb your targeted areas in order to ease the sting of the injections. Sculptra is then safely injected via a syringe directly into the part of your face you want to be treated. Once the injection is done, you’re free to leave.

Sculptra Results

After your Sculptra injections, you will notice an immediate difference in your appearance.

This is because the dermal filler has added volume and there will also be swelling at the site. However, as the swelling fades, your body will also be absorbing the dermal filler, which may cause the results to be less visible.

In the meantime, though, your body has begun to increase its production of collagen, which works to increase elasticity and tighten your skin. These results take up to 4-6 weeks to become fully visible, with optimum results often peaking at 3 months after treatment. In addition, our Boston Sculptra patients that have more than one injection, will increase the effectiveness of the results.

Recovery After Sculptra

Because there is no surgery or anesthesia involved, there is no downtime needed for recovery from Sculptra injections.

You will be able to return to your normal activities right afterward. However, you may have some bruising at the site of the injections, which can take up to a week to fade. You should also avoid extremely intense activities to allow the injections to settle more deeply under your skin. It’s also important to avoid excessive sunlight for a few days as well.

Sculptra FAQ

Approved by the FDA, Sculptra has proven to be a safe and effective treatment for stimulating collagen and improving signs of aging. It’s important to make sure you do not have any allergies to the ingredients or any medical conditions that make scarring easy, so talk to the doctor when he reviews your medical history to make sure Sculptra is right for you.

No. While Sculptra is an effective way to treat signs of aging and stimulate collagen production in your body, the results are not permanent as the dermal filler will eventually break down and be absorbed into your body. However, Sculptra is long-lasting, with results as long as two years. In addition, you can have extra treatments to extend and maintain your results.

It shouldn’t be. While injections may sting from the syringe needle, you will have a numbing cream applied beforehand which should lessen any discomfort. In addition, there may be bruising afterward, which can make the targeted areas feel tender and sore. If needed, you can take over-the-counter pain relievers to alleviate any aches.

The cost of Sculptra varies depending on which part of your face you want to be treated, if you want more than one place treated, or if you want multiple injections. Sculptra dermal fillers are considered elective treatments, so they are not covered by insurance. If you need help with payments, there are financing and payment plan options available, so make sure to ask about those if needed.
