Would you like to learn more about improving your skin and looking younger? There are many cosmetic treatments available that can help you look your best. Find out about more about collagen and microneedling below.

What is collagen?

Collagen is a protein that is found throughout your body. It is an essential part of connective tissue and can be found in bones, ligaments, tendons, and more. It plays important roles throughout the body and it also plays an important role supporting the structure of your skin.

Collagen helps to keep your skin firm and supple. Avoiding UV radiation and other toxins can help you protect your skin, but, unfortunately, as you get older your body produces less collagen. When collagen production decreases, your skin gets thinner, it loses its elasticity, and wrinkles become more prominent.

What is microneedling?

Microneedling is a cosmetic procedure that is designed to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin in the body. It is actually sometimes referred to as Collagen Induction Therapy.

The goal of this treatment is to improve the overall appearance of the skin, reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, correct uneven skin tone, and eliminate or minimize acne scars.

During the procedure a MircroPen is used to create controlled micro-injuries that stimulate the production of collagen and elastin. This results in thicker skin, fewer wrinkles, and other benefits. This procedure can be used all over the bod including the arms, legs, face, neck, abdomen, and back. The area being treated will determine how long the procedure takes. For small areas, the procedure can take as few as 15 minutes.

After the treatment is completed, there may be some minor redness, but most patients recover in 2-4 days and can continue with regular daily activities shortly after the procedure is over.  Most patients come in for a series of 2-3 treatments that are about 6-8 weeks apart.
