Are you looking for a rhinoplasty in the Boston, MA area?
A rhinoplasty procedure has the ability to give patients a measured change in their appearance and self-confidence. There is no real standard for nasal perfection as this often varies, depending on skin type, ethnicity and patients desires. Some patients request to change in shape or size, while others are simply wanting to improve their quality of breathing. Many patients who undergo a rhinoplasty elect to incorporate cheek or chin implants with their surgery, for the purpose of increasing balance of facial features. Procedure: A rhinoplasty surgery is performed in a hospital setting, under general anesthesia. Each patients surgery is unique and their procedure involves sculpting the cartilage, refining the nasal tip and reducing the size of the nasal bone. Small incisions are made at the base and in the inner confines of the nostrils. The bone and underlying structures are molded in such a way, in varying degrees, to enhance the patients appearance and create better facial balance.
Post-Operative Recovery: The patient will wake up from surgery with a nasal splint placed on the outside of the nose, providing structure and support for the healing tissue, and recovery is usually quick. For the first week, the patient should sleep in an elevated position. Bruising around the nose and eyes, puffiness and aching are often associated with rhinoplasty. In addition, small amounts of blood and fluid could be seen for 1-2 days. Cold compresses can be gently applied to aid in the reduction of swelling. The patient will return after a week to remove the splint and any remaining sutures. At this point, specific massage techniques will be shown to the patient for the purpose of increased healing. Although immediate improvements are evident, full results are seen after a year.
