Do you have stubborn fat that just won’t go away? Is your diet not enough to burn fat? Is your workout program not helping your cause? This problem plagues a lot of people. If you are one of these individuals, considering liposuction would be a good start to resolving this long-time dilemma. Then again, before you even undergo surgery, you have to understand that exercise plays an important role after surgery. Here at our Boston plastic surgery practice, we advise patients to exercise after liposuction to maintain results.
Based on the statistical report of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the Top 5 Cosmetic Surgical Procedures of 2017 included liposuction. There were almost 250,000 cases of liposuction last year, up 5% from the year before. The number shows that people are willing to go under the knife just to have a better figure. These individuals also know that they need to sweat it out after liposuction if they wish to maintain the results.
In 2012, a study was done to determine the effects of the procedure on the distribution of body fat. There were two groups of women tested: one composed of ladies who did not exercise after surgery while the other group was composed of ladies who exercised after liposuction.
The results of the study showed that abdominal liposuction did not promote fat regrowth. However, an increase in visceral fat was noted as the body’s way to compensate. Fortunately, the increase of visceral fat could be counteracted by exercise.
People who are interested in liposuction need to have realistic expectations for it to be a success. If you have spent months in the gym just to get rid of that bulging belly, there is no reason for you not to head back to the gym after liposuction. After all, there is no magic pill that would give you a wonderful body while being inactive or being an overeater. You still have to do your part and work for it.
