What is a Breast Augmentation Mastopexy?
A breast augmentation mastopexy is a surgical procedure that is used to raise and lift the breasts while simultaneously providing them with additional volume. It does so by removing excess skin and reshaping the surrounding tissue to make the breasts look more perky and youthful. This procedure can also be used to reshape the size of the areolas. Breast augmentation mastopexy is a great option for patients that want to both add volume to and lift their breasts.
A breast augmentation mastopexy results in:
- Firmer, higher breasts
- Larger cup size
- Smaller, more circular areolas
- Improved self-esteem and confidence
What Can I Expect from this Procedure?
A breast augmentation mastopexy typically takes about 1-3 hours to complete. Before the procedure begins, the patient is administered anesthesia. Once the patient has been properly sedated, an incision is made. The skin around the breast is tightened, and the tissue within the breast is reshaped. The implant is inserted into the breast. Depending on the patient’s specific cosmetic goals, the size and shape of the areolas may also be adjusted. Once all of these changes have been made, the incisions are carefully closed.
Following the procedure, patients must wear an elastic bandage or support bra for the first few weeks following surgery. Operative garments need to be worn for a week after surgery. Swelling, bruising, and discomfort are usually felt for the first 2-3 weeks. Numbness in the nipple and the breast is common for about six weeks after the procedure.
Am I a Candidate?
Nearly any woman who is interested in bringing a more youthful and full appearance to her breasts is a potential candidate for a breast augmentation mastopexy. Prospective candidates must be physically healthy, at a stable weight, and non-smokers.
