Types of Restylane Formulas

Currently, there are two kinds of Restylane used in treatment, depending on what area you would like to focus on - although you can have multiple areas treated together.

Restylane Defyne

The Restylane Defyne line is specifically designed to target the laugh lines around your mouth, known as the nasolabial folds. Defyne is injected around your cheeks, which creates lift and restores a youthful smile to your face.

Restylane Kysse

The Restylane Kysse line, as it sounds, focuses on your lips. When injected, it not only adds volume, it enhances the color and texture of your lips. This restores fullness, which in turn decreases wrinkles in and around your lips.

What is Restylane?

There are multiple dermal fillers on the market, but Restylane can not only smooth moderate to severe wrinkles and folds but also subtly enhance and plump the lips of patients 21 and older. It works through the use of Hyaluronic Acid, or HA.

When HA is injected into your skin, it binds itself to water molecules, which increase the amount of hydration in your face. This adds volume, which in turn fills in wrinkles and lines on your lips and cheeks. This family of fillers is one of the most popular choices for non-surgical skin rejuvenation by physicians worldwide. Restylane is also the only FDA-approved dermal filler specifically designed for your cheeks and lips.

Benefits of Restylane

During the aging process, our body starts to produce less collagen and less HA, both of which are required to keep your skin elastic and smooth. When there is less of this, your skin starts to sag and wrinkle, especially as you start to lose volume in your face. Restylane offers several benefits to slow the loss of volume in your face and maintain a youthful appearance.

It stimulates your body into producing collagen and HA, which then reduces wrinkles and lines on your lips and cheeks. It’s a fast, convenient treatment with flexible scheduling and non-surgical and minimally-invasive with no downtime or recovery. In addition, there are immediate results that can be customized to the patient, along with a high rate of patient satisfaction. Restylane represents an ideal solution for the long-term management of visible signs of aging.

Am I a Candidate for Restylane in Boston?

Although this and other dermal fillers do not have the same kind of results as surgical procedures, they can help men and women manage visible signs of aging and maintain youthful-looking skin with regular treatment. During your consultation for Restylane Boston registered nurse, Brittani, will discuss your skin concerns and aesthetic goals, and if approved for treatment, a plan will be customized for you outlining how many treatment sessions you may need and how long you can expect your results to last.

Recovery After Restylane Treatment

After your treatment is finished, you will need to avoid touching the injected area for at least 6 hours. Afterward, it’s important to wash with soap and water before applying cold compresses to help reduce swelling, redness, and/or bruising.

Over the next few days, you will need to avoid direct sunlight, extreme cold, and makeup. Swelling may last up to a week in your laugh lines, and up to three weeks in your lips as the tissue is more sensitive there

Restylane Procedure

Restylane treatments are non-surgical and occur in-office. The procedure itself is fast and normally only lasts up to an hour. Once done, you should be able to return home and continue your daily activities.

One of our Boston Restylane specialists will inject the dermal filler just below the surface of the skin. All injections of Restylane already come with lidocaine, a numbing agent, which helps reduce any discomfort from the injection(s). If you have multiple injections, the level of lidocaine only increases, which further numbs the target area. Restylane filler is a clear gel formulation of hyaluronic acid specially designed to mimic the hyaluronic acid produced by your body.

Once administered to strategic points around the nose and mouth, this filler binds with water and creates an immediate lifting and smoothing effect that can be customized to create the perfect results for each patient. For patients who have thin lips, Restylane can also be injected into the lip area for subtle enhancement. This treatment option can be discussed with our medical team during your consultation.

Results of Restylane

Because Restylane is a dermal filler that adds volume to the target area, there will be immediate results due to the new substance injected under your skin. However, due to swelling and possible bruising, your full results won’t be completely visible until up to two weeks after your treatment with Restylane, once the side effects have faded.

Restylane FAQ

If you are unhappy with lost volume in your cheeks, lips, and laugh lines as increased signs of aging, then you may want to choose Restylane, which is the only FDA-approved dermal filler specifically designed to target these areas.

Not really. While there may be a little sting from the injection, your discomfort should be minimal. After treatment, some of our Boston Restylane patients may find there is some redness, swelling, itching, bruising, and small lumps at the injection site, but these are generally mild side effects that fade in a few hours to a few days. Note that not every patient will experience all of these.

No, especially if you are using Restylane to treat acne scars. Restylane treatments only happen through injections, so there are no incisions to leave scars. There may be some bruising at first, but this will fade in a week.

The price varies according to what parts of your body you have treated, if you have multiple parts treated, and if you have multiple treatments. Note that Restylane is an elective procedure, and is not covered by health insurance. You can ask about financing or payment options if needed.
