What is Sculptra?
FDA-approved in 2009, Sculptra is one of the most effective dermal fillers on the market today when it comes to the long-lasting correction of shallow to deep facial wrinkles and folds. After a series of treatments, this injectable brings patients wrinkle correction that can last more than two years.
Sculptra can be used to treat many of the most common signs of aging, including:
- Nasolabial folds (smile lines)
- Marionette lines
- Chin wrinkles
- Hollow cheeks
- Skin laxity
- Uneven skin texture
How Does it Work?
Over a series of three treatments in Boston Sculptra gradually fills in fine lines and wrinkles by replacing collagen lost over time with newer, stronger structural proteins. This injectable is made with poly-L-lactic acid, also known as PLLA. When injected into the deep dermis, PLLA causes the skin to raise and lift, providing immediate wrinkle correction.
Over time, the microparticles of PLLA begin to replace collagen within the skin, reinforcing its overall structure. This makes the skin smoother, tighter, and more youthful-looking. As time passes, this collagen framework becomes stronger and stronger, sustaining the original results of the injections for as long as two years.
What are the Benefits of Sculptra?
Unlike many other dermal fillers that require periodic injectable treatments to see sustained results, Sculptra brings changes that can last for years after just a few injection sessions. Because the wrinkle correction brought by Sculptra is largely due to an increase in collagen production, the results of this procedure are both beautiful and natural-looking.
Am I a Good Candidate for Treatment?
Patients looking for an effective injectable treatment that doesn’t feature the pain and downtime that comes with surgical procedures may want to consider undergoing a series of Sculptra injections. Potential candidates must be in good health, have a thorough understanding of the Sculptra treatment process, and have realistic expectations about the results of their treatment.
